Lancashire County Cricket Club has announced its inaugural matches at its new Farington facility, signaling a significant expansion of its cricketing infrastructure. The purpose-built ground, situated a few miles south of Preston, will host One-Day Cup fixtures for both the men’s and women’s teams in July and September of 2026. The men’s team is scheduled to play Kent on July 28th and Notts Outlaws on July 30th at the new ground. The women’s team will follow, competing against Surrey on September 3rd and Durham on September 6th. The facility boasts a 5,000-capacity hub and features two ovals – one dedicated to professional matches and the other designed for recreational, youth, and grassroots cricket. The £20 million project likewise includes elite practice facilities and an indoor training dome. Funding for the dome was provided by both the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and the government, ensuring year-round access for players. The development aims to bolster cricket participation at all levels within the region. Recent reports indicate increased awareness of meningitis outbreaks across the UK, including in Kent, prompting universities in Lancashire to issue preventative advice to students. While unrelated to the cricket ground development, the health advisory highlights ongoing public health concerns within the broader region. Lancashire Constabulary also recently published news regarding ongoing police activity in the area. The new facility represents a substantial investment in Lancashire’s cricketing future, providing a modern venue for professional matches and a dedicated space for developing the next generation of cricketers. The ECB has been actively involved in supporting such developments nationwide, recognizing the importance of infrastructure investment for the sport’s growth.
