Danish Handball Star Kathrine Heindahl Eyes World Championship Return after Birth

Esbjerg, Denmark Veteran Danish line​ player Kathrine Heindahl has signed‌ a contract extension⁢ wiht Team Esbjerg through the end of the season, aiming to​ regain peak fitness following her recent childbirth⁤ adn potentially rejoin the national team for the upcoming World Championships.

Just two months after giving birth, the 33-year-old is set to return to ‍professional⁣ handball with Esbjerg, where her previous three-year contract concluded this summer. She ⁣will join teammates Olivia Loefqvist and Tabea ‍Schmid in the line player position.

“It is a dream scenario that⁣ I can now combine family life and handball, and there was ‍not much time to ⁤think⁢ before I said⁤ yes,” Heindahl ⁢stated on Esbjerg’s website. “I have an idea that the club will⁤ buy into my experience, charisma, and leadership, and that I⁢ will win at all costs.”

Heindahl brings a wealth of ‌experience from both club and international⁣ competition,⁢ which she intends to ‍share with ⁣her new teammates. ​”In addition,​ I have ⁣a lot of ⁣experience from having participated in ‌big matches with the club team and the national team, which I think I can pass on to Olivia ⁢and ​Tabea,” she added.

While initially focused on the 2026 European⁤ Championships,Heindahl acknowledged a shift in her goals due to recent‍ developments within the national​ team. “My goal has always been the European Championships in 2026, ‌but since then, other key players in the‍ national team have become ​unavailable ‍for the tournament, ⁢and I can’t excuse myself from thinking ‌about the World Championships​ at the end of the year. I’m⁢ going to chase it,” ⁣she confirmed.

Heindahl noted she ‍had received offers from ​multiple clubs before deciding to remain with Team Esbjerg.
