Healey Campaign Receives Meaningful Donations Following Florida Fundraisers
Governor maura Healey’s campaign and the Massachusetts Democratic Party received over $55,000 in contributions in the days surrounding a pair of fundraisers held in Miami last month, with a substantial portion coming from attorneys associated with the national law firm Morgan & Morgan.
Governor Healey traveled to Florida on September 14th for approximately 24 hours, a trip initially undisclosed by the governor’s office until after its completion. Her campaign confirmed the visit included two fundraising events. Following the trip, state campaign finance records show over two dozen attorneys listing Morgan & Morgan as their employer made donations. These contributions totaled just over $20,000 to Healey’s campaign and roughly $35,000 to the Massachusetts Democratic Party. A majority of the donating attorneys contributed the maximum amount permissible under state law.
John Morgan, the billionaire founder and owner of Morgan & Morgan, personally donated $1,000 to Governor Healey on september 17th and an additional $2,000 to the Massachusetts Democratic Party on September 15th. The donating attorneys were primarily based in Florida, with one listed as residing in Massachusetts and two in Kentucky.
Governor Healey acknowledged the fundraising efforts, stating she doesn’t personally track individual donations. “You can talk to my committee. I don’t know who I raised it from,” she said, adding, “I’m running for reelection, guys. I’m going to be raising money.”
This is not the first time Morgan has financially supported Healey’s campaigns, having donated $1,000 during her initial run for governor in 2022. Morgan has a history of political involvement, including previous consideration of a gubernatorial run in Florida and significant support for ballot initiatives related to minimum wage and medical cannabis legalization in his home state.
Governor Healey raised nearly $268,000 in September. Representatives for Morgan & Morgan, as well as the Massachusetts Democratic Party and its chair Steve Kerrigan, did not respond to requests for comment regarding the contributions.
