Samsung has unveiled significant advancements in low-light image capture with its new Galaxy S26 Ultra smartphone, aiming to deliver clearer, more detailed, and realistic photos and videos in challenging lighting conditions. The device, announced in February 2026 and released on March 6th, features upgraded camera hardware and AI-powered image processing.
At the core of these improvements are enhanced camera sensors. The Galaxy S26 Ultra boasts a 200MP primary sensor and a 50MP telephoto lens, both equipped with wider apertures to capture more light. This allows for sharper and more detailed images, even in dark environments or when zoomed in, according to Samsung.
These hardware upgrades are complemented by advancements in AI-based image signal processing (AI ISP). Utilizing Galaxy AI, the smartphone analyzes each scene to automatically optimize brightness, reduce digital noise, and preserve textures. This results in clearer photos while maintaining natural colors and balanced contrast.
Video recording also benefits from these enhancements. The Galaxy S26 Ultra captures brighter and sharper footage in low-light conditions, enabling more detailed recordings of nighttime scenes. This includes indoor concerts, bustling city streets at night, and intimate outdoor gatherings.
The front-facing camera also receives improvements, with enhanced image processing reproducing more natural skin tones and finer details, even in difficult lighting. This ensures clearer selfies and video calls, regardless of the surrounding environment.
The Galaxy S26 Ultra is available in six colors: Violet, Sky Blue, Black, and White, with online exclusives including Silver Shadow and Pink Gold. Pricing starts at $1,299.99 for the 256GB storage model with 12GB of RAM, and reaches $1,799 for the 1TB/16GB configuration. The phone runs Android 16 and is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor.
These camera capabilities are further enhanced by the Assistant Photo feature, allowing users to adjust, improve, or rework low-light photos directly on the smartphone without the need for additional software.
The device features a 6.9-inch display with a resolution of 1440×3120 pixels and is protected by Corning Gorilla Armor 2. It also includes 5000mAh battery with 60W fast charging and 25W wireless charging.
