Francisca Cadenas Trial: Judge Confronts Lawyer Over Defendant’s Testimony

A tense moment unfolded in the trial of Francisca Cadenas as the judge reprimanded the lawyer of one of the accused, Julián, for seemingly conducting the testimony himself. The judge intervened when it became apparent that Julián was responding to questions with only monosyllabic answers while his lawyer detailed the events, both what happened and how, according to reporting from LaSexta.

The situation came to light when the family’s lawyer raised concerns, followed by the presiding judge. “You are giving the statement for him. You are not here to give a statement,” the judge stated, rebuking the lawyer. The judge clarified that while the lawyer could ask questions, the responses from the defendant should not be limited to simple “yes” or “no” answers, urging him to encourage more detailed responses.

The lawyer responded defensively, referencing a gesture he perceived from the judge, stating, “Do not point your finger at me.” Following the judge’s reprimand, the lawyer announced he was concluding his line of questioning: “No more questions, your honor.”

The proceedings follow the confession of one of the brothers accused in Cadenas’ death, who reportedly confessed to the crime while attempting to exonerate his sibling, according to Libertad Digital. Both brothers have been transferred to a separate isolation unit within the prison, Telecinco reported.

The investigation has also revealed details about the accused’s reaction to the arrival of the UCO, a specialized unit of the Spanish National Police, with reports indicating they expressed fear, reportedly stating, “They are kids with a vest,” as reported by ABC.

The judge has called three neighbors to testify who were the last known people to observe Francisca Cadenas before her death, according to LaSexta.
