Glick Philanthropies Donation to Provide 30,000 Meals to Northeast Indiana Families
FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Community Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Indiana will be able to provide 30,000 meals thanks to a $7,500 donation from Glick Philanthropies, announced friday. The contribution comes at a time of increasing need within the community, spurred by the impending expiration of supplemental SNAP benefits and rising grocery costs.
Glick Philanthropies stated their donation is intended to support Community Harvest Food BankS vital work as families face greater challenges affording food. “As our community prepares for the upcoming expiration of SNAP benefits, we recognise that countless families will soon face increased challenges of putting food on the table. In response, Glick Philanthropies is proud to provide a donation of $7,500 to Community Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Indiana to help support your vital work during this critical time. This funding is enough to purchase 30,000 meals!”
Carmen Cumberland, President & CEO of Community Harvest Food Bank, expressed gratitude for the ongoing support. “The most fundamental need is food, and thriving begins when that need is met. Glick Foundation has long stood beside us in our mission, recognizing the importance of nourishing our neighbors, and for that,we are deeply grateful.”
According to Adam Roby, Community Harvest food Bank Engagement Manager, the need is accelerating faster than usual, compounded by holiday spending. “The need has been creeping up. It always does this time of year but it’s accelerated faster than usual. We can kind of see the wave coming so it hasn’t quite landed 100% yet with {SNAP} benefits would’ve been paid out a couple days ago so it’ll increase for sure. We’ve taken steps to do it but donations like this from Glick make it possible and easier to do it.”
The funding will be used to purchase food for programs across the Food Bank’s nine-county service area, including the mobile food pantry – Farm Wagon, the veteran’s program – Hope for Heroes, and the on-site Community Cupboard.
Despite record numbers of people seeking assistance,Roby remains optimistic, citing a surge in community support. “One very big positive is our food donation barrels are gone,” he said. “We have over 200. Every single one of them is out and about right now. We’ve had a huge surge in people offering to host a food drive which has been wonderful. We’ve had I think 7 today from businesses and churches all wanting to help do their part. That’s been very inspiring for sure.”
