Fetterman: ‘TDS’ Is Leading the Democratic Party Now

Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman asserted that the Democratic Party currently lacks a defined leader, attributing the party’s direction to what he termed “Trump Derangement Syndrome,” or “TDS.” Fetterman made the comments during an appearance on the “All-In” podcast on Wednesday, March 18, 2026.

“Oh, we don’t have one,” Fetterman responded when asked who he believed led the Democratic Party. “I think the TDS, that’s the leader right now… our party is governed by the TDS. And now it’s made it virtually impossible without being punished as a Democrat to agree something’s great or I agree with the other side.”

The senator’s remarks come as he has publicly supported the U.S. Military action against Iran, known as Operation Epic Fury, a position that places him at odds with many of his Democratic colleagues. Fetterman stated he was “literally the only Democrat in America, uh, in Congress, that I’ve come across that’s saying, I think it’s a great thing to break and destroy the Iranian regime. I think it’s entirely appropriate to hold them accountable.”

Fetterman further elaborated on the influence of “TDS,” suggesting that even a benign action by former President Donald Trump could be met with automatic opposition from within the Democratic Party. “Trump could come out for ice cream and lazy Sundays and now, suddenly, Democrats would hate it. We would wanna vote it down,” he said.

The senator’s criticism extends to figures within his own party. Earlier this month, Fetterman condemned Democrats for what he described as a failure to prioritize national interests over partisan politics regarding the strikes against Iran. He has also recently criticized former Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee for president in 2024, for calling President Trump a “fascist,” stating Harris “lost the plot” with that characterization. Fetterman argued that labeling Trump a fascist unfairly paints his supporters with the same brush.

Fetterman’s stance on Israel remains consistently supportive. On Tuesday, March 17, 2026, he posted on X, stating, “As a Democrat, I’m deeply proud to stand with Israel through the horror of 10/07.” He also expressed pride in the U.S. Military’s accomplishments in Operation Epic Fury, asserting that “picking country over party is never wrong.”
