Unidentified drones were detected flying over Fort Lesley J. McNair in Washington, D.C., a military installation that houses the residences of Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, according to reports from multiple news outlets.
The Washington Post reported Thursday that three sources familiar with the matter confirmed the drone activity had been occurring for the past ten days. The sightings come amid heightened tensions following recent U.S. And Israeli actions resulting in the deaths of several high-ranking Iranian officials, including figures within the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
Following those killings, elements within the IRGC’s Quds Force, responsible for clandestine operations, reportedly issued warnings that U.S. And Israeli officials “would no longer be safe anywhere in the world, even in their own homes,” according to reports.
FOX 5 DC similarly reported on the drone sightings, noting the security concerns raised by the presence of unidentified aerial vehicles over the base. The Daily Beast characterized the situation as a “major security threat” to the homes of “Top Trump Goons,” referencing the residences of Rubio and Hegseth.
U.S. Officials have not publicly identified the drones or their origin. A Facebook post shared by the Washington Post linked to their reporting on the matter, stating that officials were briefed on the situation but offering no further details.
The incident occurs as Tehran has vowed a “firm response” to what it describes as illegal attacks. The nature of any potential response remains unclear, and officials have not commented on the drone activity at Fort Lesley J. McNair.
