Dave Grohl, frontman for the Foo Fighters, revealed he deliberately distanced himself from public life after acknowledging paternity of a child born outside of his marriage in September 2024. The musician described needing to “turn everything off,” including concern for public perception, in a recent interview with The Guardian.
Grohl, 57, has been married to director Jordyn Blum since 2003, and they share three daughters: Violet, 18, Harper, 15, and Ophelia, 10. He publicly announced the birth of his daughter with another woman via social media in September, stating his commitment to regaining his family’s trust and forgiveness.
“Being able to shut off that part of yourself can be sometimes a very healthy exercise in considering life within your immediate radius,” Grohl told The Guardian. “Not giving all of that so much currency within yourself that it can completely destroy yourself.”
The musician indicated that songwriting served as a crucial outlet during this period. “I have to be perfectly honest, writing songs and writing lyrics about these things is sometimes enough,” he said. He likewise noted a need for personal reflection, stating, “I wound up in a place that I needed to stop and sit with myself, and re-evaluate myself. It’s an ongoing process.”
Grohl’s previous marriage to photographer Jennifer Youngblood, which ended in divorce in 1997, was reportedly also impacted by infidelity, according to reports.
The Foo Fighters are scheduled to release their twelfth studio album, Your Favourite Toy, in April 2026. A performance recorded on February 22nd at St James’s Church in Daingean Uí Chúis, Ireland, as part of the Other Voices series, will air on RTÉ2 on Easter Monday, April 6th, and will be available on RTÉ Player. The performance features tracks from the upcoming album, alongside popular songs like “My Hero” and “Everlong,” and includes a live rendition of “A320” for the first time since 2000.
Grohl first gained prominence as the drummer for Nirvana, joining the band in 1990 and remaining with them until their dissolution following the death of Kurt Cobain in 1994. He contributed to the albums Nevermind and In Utero during his time with the band.
