Chuck Norris Dies at 86: ‘Walker, Texas Ranger’ Star Remembered

Chuck Norris, the internationally recognized martial artist and actor best known for his starring role in the television series “Walker, Texas Ranger,” died Thursday morning in Kauai, Hawaii, his family announced Friday. He was 86.

“We see with heavy hearts that our family shares the sudden passing of our beloved Chuck Norris yesterday morning,” the family said in a statement. “While we would like to maintain the circumstances private, please recognize that he was surrounded by his family and was at peace.”

Norris was hospitalized earlier this week in Hawaii following an undisclosed medical emergency, according to reports from TMZ. The actor had celebrated his 86th birthday on March 10th, posting a video to Instagram of himself sparring with a trainer, writing, “I don’t age. I level up.”

Born Carlos Ray Norris in Ryan, Oklahoma, in 1940, Norris rose to prominence as a martial arts competitor before transitioning to a career in film. He gained international recognition after appearing as the antagonist in Bruce Lee’s 1972 film, “The Way of the Dragon.” He subsequently starred in a series of action films throughout the 1980s, establishing himself as a leading action star.

“Walker, Texas Ranger,” which premiered in 1993, became a signature role for Norris, running for nine seasons. The series cemented his image as a symbol of strength, and justice.

The family’s statement continued, “To the world, he was a martial artist, actor, and a symbol of strength. To us, he was a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, an incredible brother, and the heart of our family. He lived his life with faith, purpose, and an unwavering commitment to the people he loved. Through his operate, discipline, and kindness, he inspired millions around the world and left a lasting impact on so many lives.”

The family expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support from fans, adding, “To him, you were not just fans, you were his friends.”
