A 16-year-old boy is fighting for his life after a shooting in Sheffield on Monday evening. Police responded to reports of a gunshot wound on London Road shortly before 5:20 PM,finding the teenager who was later transported to hospital.
The incident has prompted a large police presence in the area, with extensive enquiries underway to identify the perpetrator(s). London Road remains partially closed between Sitwell Place and crowther Place, causing traffic disruption expected to continue today.
South Yorkshire Police stated officers will maintain a visible presence overnight and increase patrols in the coming days. Detective Chief Inspector Emma Knight, the senior investigating officer, described the shooting as a “terrible incident.”
“I want to assure residents that a dedicated team of officers and staff are working tirelessly to understand the circumstances that led to this attack and to trace those responsible,” Knight added.
Police are appealing to the public for information. “We need you to work with us and provide any information you have,” Knight said.”This is not acceptable on our streets, so we must work together to stop it. If you see officers in the area and have information or concerns, please do speak to them.”
The boy’s family are currently with him at the hospital.
