Black Coffee Lagos: Afro House Icon to Headline 2026 Event

Lagos is set to host Grammy Award-winning DJ and producer Black Coffee on April 5, 2026, in a performance billed as a pivotal moment for the city’s burgeoning electronic music scene. The event, organized by M:E Entertainment alongside DAPO, aims to solidify Lagos’s position as a key hub for Afro house and electronic music within Africa and on the global stage.

For years, Lagos has been internationally recognized as the epicenter of Afrobeats, a genre that has achieved widespread commercial success and critical acclaim. Yet, a parallel electronic music culture has been developing within the city, largely outside the mainstream spotlight. M:E Entertainment, according to statements released, has focused on amplifying this existing scene rather than creating it.

Last March, M:E Entertainment’s “Rampa Lagos” event signaled a shift in the city’s musical landscape. The event featured surprise performances from Afrobeats stars Burna Boy and Olamide alongside internationally recognized DJ Rampa, demonstrating Lagos’s capacity to host large-scale electronic music events and attract a diverse audience. The success of Rampa Lagos, M:E Entertainment stated, confirmed the demand for electronic music experiences within the city.

Black Coffee, born Nkosinathi Innocent Maphumulo in Durban, South Africa, is a leading figure in Afro house. He has performed at prominent venues worldwide, including DC10 in Ibiza and Avant Gardner in New York and is credited with bringing Afro house to a global audience. His upcoming performance in Lagos is being framed not simply as a concert, but as a cultural exchange between South Africa, which pioneered the genre, and Nigeria, which is now actively shaping its future.

“When we did Rampa, no one could quite believe the way Lagos responded,” M:E Entertainment representatives said. “The energy, the hunger, the sheer electricity of that crowd—it told us everything we needed to know about what this city is capable of. Now we’re building on that. When people look back at how Lagos became a global electronic music destination, April 5 will be one of the nights they point to.”

The event is expected to draw attention to the growing creative and entertainment industry in Lagos, as highlighted by recent developments in the sector, including initiatives focused on grid management and new industry structures. The performance by Black Coffee is positioned as a defining moment in Lagos’s evolution as a global electronic music destination.
