Bitcoin Core 23.2 Release: Download Now | Latest News

Bitcoin Core version 30.2 has been released, offering new features, bug fixes, and performance improvements to the open-source cryptocurrency software. Installation binaries are available for download from bitcoincore.org, with the source code accessible through the Bitcoin Core source repository.

The release addresses several wallet-related issues, including a fix for unnamed legacy wallet migration failures and problems with the wallettool’s createfromdump function. A deletion issue concerning walletsdir has also been resolved. Testing procedures have been updated to avoid backup name mismatches during default wallet failure scenarios.

Improvements extend to the software’s underlying infrastructure. Changes have been made to address Control-C shutdown hangs during wait calls, enhancing the system’s responsiveness. Build processes have been refined, including reducing allowed exported symbols in Guix and updating the minimum required Boost version. Guix osslsigncode tests have also been corrected. A specific test case, feature_init, has been modified to avoid using time.sleep(1), improving test reliability.

Bitcoin Core 30.2 is officially supported on operating systems utilizing the Linux Kernel 3.17 or later, macOS 13 or later, and Windows 10 or later. Although the software is expected to function on other Unix-like systems, testing is less frequent, and use on unsupported systems is not recommended.

Users upgrading from older versions are instructed to shut down their current installation completely before installing the new version. On Windows, this involves running the installer; on macOS, copying over /Applications/Bitcoin-Qt; and on Linux, copying over bitcoind/bitcoin-qt. The release notes indicate that upgrading from end-of-life versions is possible, though may capture longer due to potential data directory migrations. Older wallet versions are generally supported during the upgrade process.

The development team encourages users to report any bugs encountered through the issue tracker on GitHub. Security and update notifications are available via subscription on the Bitcoin Core website.
