ams OSRAM officially launched its China Product Development Center (PDC) in Shanghai on March 19, 2026, integrating end-to-end integrated circuit development capabilities, according to a company announcement.
The fresh facility is intended to tailor chip solutions to the specific demands of the local Chinese market. Ams OSRAM stated the decision to locate the center in Shanghai was driven by the city’s established electronic information industry chain and its concentration of research and development talent. The move is a key component of the company’s “In China, For China” strategy, designed to develop chip capabilities within the region.
The PDC will be staffed by research and development and engineering teams responsible for the design of sensing solutions and the development of integrated circuits. Jose Vinau, Vice President and Head of the China Development Center, said the team is focused on supporting customer growth. Kevin Shi, Vice President and Head of Greater China and APAC operations, emphasized that strengthening local R&D, procurement, and production is a critical element of ams OSRAM’s overall global strategy.
ams OSRAM, a global leader in intelligent sensors and emitters, reported revenues of EUR 3.6 billion in 2023 and is listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange. The company employs approximately 20,000 people worldwide, focusing on innovation in sensing, illumination, and visualization technologies. According to the company, its operate supports applications in the automotive, industrial, medical, and consumer markets.
The Shanghai center will serve as a hub for innovation and collaboration, fostering direct engagement with the domestic electronics industry ecosystem. The launch follows the opening of a China Development Center in August 2024, according to a company press release.
