Robinson Dominates Mont Tremblant Giant Slalom, Goggia Shows Promise
Mont Tremblant, Canada – Alice Robinson of New Zealand continued her impressive giant slalom form, securing victory at Mont Tremblant today. Building on her win at Copper Mountain last week, the 24-year-old led after a challenging first run and maintained her advantage in the second, benefitting from improved course conditions. Zrinka Ljutic of Croatia and Canadian Valerie Grenier rounded out the podium.
The race showcased a mixed bag of results for the Italian team. Sofia Goggia delivered a solid performance, finishing 8th – a step up from her 10th place in the first run - signaling growing confidence in the discipline. However, the team also faced setbacks with Asja Zenere, previously considered Italy’s most promising giant slalom skier, failing to finish within the maximum time in the first heat.
A standout performance came from Lara Della Mea, who climbed an impressive 14 positions to finish 9th. The 26-year-old Friulian athlete recorded the fastest time in the second run and achieved her best career result in a giant slalom. Ilaria Ghisalberti also contributed to the Italian effort, finishing 26th.
Meanwhile, American star Mikaela Shiffrin continues to struggle in the giant slalom following a serious accident in killington in November 2024. After placing third in the first run – a discipline she hasn’t won since December 28, 2024, in Lienz – Shiffrin ultimately finished 6th. Lara Colturi, a rival to Shiffrin earlier in the season, had a disappointing day, finishing 23rd.
Competition continues tomorrow in Mont Tremblant with another giant slalom. Men’s racers will also be in action, competing in the giant slalom in Beaver creek, USA.
