AFP Habitat CEO Alejandro Bezanilla to Step Down After Two Decades with the Firm
Alejandro Bezanilla will be leaving his position as general manager of AFP Habitat, marking the end of a 20-year tenure with the pension fund administrator. He has led the company as CEO as 2018.
Bezanilla initially joined AFP Habitat in December 2005 as deputy investment manager. He was afterward promoted to investment manager, a role he held from 2008 until December 2018, when he assumed the general management position.
The board of directors expressed its gratitude for Bezanilla’s contributions, stating, “The board of directors deeply appreciates the work done by Alejandro Bezanilla in these 20 years linked to AFP Habitat and recognizes his outstanding career in the different roles and responsibilities he played in the company since his incorporation as deputy investment manager in December 2005, then as investment manager between 2008 and December 2018, the date on which he assumed general management.”
During his seven years as CEO, Bezanilla was instrumental in solidifying AFP Habitat’s position as a leader in the industry, growing it to become the largest asset manager in both mandatory and voluntary savings. He took over as general manager in 2018 following Cristián Rodríguez‘s transition to the presidency of the AFP, which occurred after Juan Benavides left the presidency to join Codelco.
This leadership change comes amidst other recent shifts within AFP Habitat. In mid-2024, Carolina Mery, the then investment manager, moved to a new role as operations manager within Habitat’s controlling company. Rodrigo Nader replaced Mery, joining the firm at the end of 2024 as a fixed income manager.
AFP Habitat currently holds a 27% market share in managed assets as of October. The firm is now undertaking a search to identify Bezanilla’s successor.
