Salerno, Italy – Gerardo Soglia, son of the late U.S. Salernitana 1919 president Don Peppino Soglia, publicly voiced his support for the ongoing change in ownership at the football club, defending the current process against what he characterized as premature judgment. Soglia’s statement, posted on social media, comes as Danilo Iervolino prepares to finalize the acquisition of the club.
In a lengthy post, Soglia acknowledged the likelihood of criticism for his stance, stating a personal philosophy of embracing risk and responsibility. He invoked an Arabic proverb – “Chi non rischia, non attraversa il mare” (He who does not risk, does not cross the sea) – to illustrate his preference for action over inaction, even in challenging circumstances.
Soglia criticized the immediate and often harsh reactions to the ownership transition, describing it as a “usual fire” of opinions, accusations, and incomplete assessments. He argued that complex operations like a club takeover are too often reduced to public trials, a pattern he has observed repeatedly. “Those who act are accused, those who observe feel automatically entitled to judge,” he wrote. He differentiated between those who take initiative and those who merely critique, asserting that the true measure of a person lies in their willingness to act.
He acknowledged that those currently involved in the Salernitana operation may have made mistakes, but emphasized that their willingness to invest, choose, and risk resources and reputation sets them apart from passive observers. Don Peppino Soglia, his father, is remembered as a significant figure in the history of the club, according to the FIGC Campania.
As of March 21, 2026, Salernitana sits third in Serie C, with 57 points, trailing Benevento (76) and Catania (64). Their next match is scheduled for March 23, 2026, against Team Altamura.
