Bangkok, Thailand – Charoen Krung Pracharak Hospital hosted a health awareness event on Tuesday, March 19, 2026, focused on the prevention of colorectal cancer through screening. The event, spearheaded by Dr. Krianggrai Tangjitmaneesakda, Director of the Medical Office of Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, aimed to increase public awareness of the disease and emphasize the importance of early detection, particularly for at-risk populations.
Dr. Phornthep Saeheng, Director of Charoen Krung Pracharak Hospital, and other hospital administrators welcomed attendees to the Udom Sangworn Yan Hall on the 23rd floor of the 72nd Anniversary Queen Sirikit Park Building. The initiative sought to educate the public on the symptoms of colorectal cancer, abnormalities in bowel movements, methods for identifying potential issues, preventative measures, and available treatment options. Emphasis was placed on the benefits of early screening in improving treatment outcomes.
The event, running from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM, featured a series of presentations. Dr. Kritsak Srikitiwong, a colorectal surgeon specializing in large intestine and rectal surgery, delivered a lecture on “Colorectal Cancer Prevention Through Screening.” Pawinee Watchamook, a specialist nurse in wound care, ostomy, and incontinence management, led a session titled “Fit Test: Is it Difficult? Can it be Done at Home?” Another session, presented by Chanuttaporn Rattanamongkol, too a specialist nurse in wound care, ostomy, and incontinence management, addressed “Colonoscopy: How to Prepare and Ensure Safety.”
Attendees had access to a health information board detailing colorectal cancer, screening methods, and preventative measures. A question-and-answer session regarding colonoscopy procedures was also included. Free basic health screenings were offered, including blood tests, chest X-rays, and electrocardiograms.
The event comes amid ongoing efforts to improve cancer screening rates globally. Recent reports indicate that early detection remains a significant challenge in many regions, contributing to higher mortality rates. While the provided information does not detail specific screening rates in Thailand, the hospital’s initiative reflects a broader trend toward proactive health management and preventative care.
