Five Navy wrestlers began competition Thursday at the 2026 NCAA Wrestling Championships in Cleveland, Ohio, seeking national titles at Rocket Arena. The championships run through Saturday, with live results and brackets available on Trackwrestling.com, according to Navy Athletics.
The competition unfolds as over 300 wrestlers vie for All-American status, NCAA championships, and lasting legacies, according to reports from Yahoo Sports and FloWrestling. Penn State enters the tournament as the team favored to win, boasting a lineup of top seeds and potential champions. However, Ohio State, Nebraska, and Oklahoma State are also considered strong contenders.
Several individual wrestlers are drawing significant attention. Luke Lilledahl of Penn State aims to secure a dominant victory at 125 lbs. Jax Forrest, a true freshman from Oklahoma State, is undefeated entering the tournament at 133 lbs, facing a challenging bracket. Jesse Mendez returns as the favorite at 141 lbs, while PJ Duke, Mitchell Mesenbrink, and Levi Haines are expected to contend in the middleweight divisions. Josh Barr and Yonger Bastida are anchoring the upper weight classes.
NC State wrestling also commenced competition Thursday, preparing to compete through Saturday, March 21st. Each weight class bracket contains 33 wrestlers, with the top eight earning All-American honors.
As of 8:14 p.m. ET on March 19th, the quarterfinals matchups were set. At 125 lbs, Luke Lilledahl (Penn State) faced Dean Peterson (Iowa), while Troy Spratley (OK State) battled Sheldon Seymour (Lehigh). Other quarterfinal pairings included Jacob Moran (Indiana) versus Jore Volk (Minnesota), and Marc-Anthony McGowan (Princeton) against Eddie Ventresca (Virginia Tech). At 133 lbs, Jax Forrest (OK State) was scheduled to wrestle Markel Baker (Northern Illinois).
