Skien Business: Fast-Growing Company Merges & Rebrands

Telemarksavisa AS, a media company based in Skien, Norway, has undergone a significant restructuring, merging with another entity and adopting a new name, according to recent reports.

The company, originally founded in 1921 as Telemark Arbeiderblad, has a long history in Norwegian media, evolving through several name changes – including a period as Telemark Social-Demokrat – and navigating challenges during the Nazi occupation of Norway in World War II, when it was briefly known as Telemark Blad. Today, it operates as an independent entity under the Amedia umbrella.

The move to merge and rebrand comes as Telemarksavisa AS addresses parking limitations and seeks to promote sustainability, initiating a program impacting all 900 employees to reduce reliance on personal vehicles. Details of the incentive program remain limited, but the company is encouraging alternative commuting methods.

As of the first half of 2024, Telemarksavisa AS reported total operating revenues of 108.329 million Norwegian kroner, with a profit before tax of 6.235 million kroner. The company currently employs 34 individuals and is part of a larger consortium of 149 companies under the Amedia Lokal AS parent organization.

Telemarksavisa AS publishes a local daily newspaper in the Telemark region of Norway, with offices in Skien, Porsgrunn, Bø, Bamble, Notodden, Nome, and Vinje. The publication currently has a circulation of 22,886, according to recent data.

The company’s headquarters are located at Telemarksgata 11, 3724 Skien, Norway. Contact can be made via telephone at +35 58 56 00.
