하나손해보험 has expanded its “Hana The Next 3.N.5” simplified insurance plan to include coverage for advanced cancer treatments, including proton therapy and robotic surgery, the company announced Thursday.
The updated plan aims to provide broader protection for individuals with pre-existing conditions and seniors, offering flexible underwriting criteria alongside the novel specialized treatment coverage. According to a statement, the plan allows customers to set a disclosure period ranging from one to ten years, maintaining consistent enrollment amounts and excluding up to five pre-existing conditions.
A key addition is the “Antiproton Radiation Therapy Benefit” special clause, which covers up to 50 million won (approximately $36,700 USD) for proton therapy – a fourth-generation radiation treatment known for its precision and reduced treatment duration. Proton therapy is currently not covered by national health insurance in South Korea, creating a significant financial burden for patients. Combined with existing coverage for anti-cancer radiation and drug therapy (up to 30 million won each), the plan now offers potential coverage of up to 110 million won for cancer treatment costs.
The plan too strengthens coverage for “Da Vinci Robotic Cancer Surgery,” responding to the increasing use of robotic surgical techniques in cancer treatment.
“Hana The Next 3.N.5” simplifies the application process by requiring verification of suspected conditions within the past three months, hospitalizations or surgeries within the past two years, and cancer diagnoses, hospitalizations, or surgeries within the past five years. The plan boasts a list of 444 excluded conditions, described as the highest in the industry.
하나손해보험 received the ‘2026 Korea Consumer Evaluation Best Brand’ award in the health insurance sector for its “Hana The First 3N5 Simple Health Insurance” plan, according to a separate announcement on Thursday. The award recognizes the plan’s accessibility for customers with pre-existing health conditions, offering simplified health disclosures. The plan provides coverage for 136 major disease surgeries, robotic surgery, and proton therapy, and is priced at approximately 85% of the insurance cost for major cancer treatment coverage.
하나손해보험 officials stated that the award reflects the company’s commitment to strengthening product competitiveness to provide broader coverage for customers who have historically faced difficulties obtaining insurance due to their health history.
