Blair Oaks Falcons football coach Chad Bax capped his career wiht a championship victory,leading the team to a 28-7 win over the Lutheran North Crusaders in the Class 2 state title game on December 2,2023,at Faurot Field/Memorial Stadium in Columbia,Missouri. The win secured Blair Oaks’ second state championship in program history and the first under Bax’s leadership.
Bax announced his retirement prior to the season, making this victory a particularly poignant end to his tenure. He finishes his coaching career as a state champion.
The Falcons’ dominant performance was fueled by a strong rushing attack and a stifling defense. Running back Kolton James led the charge with 148 yards and two touchdowns, earning him game MVP honors. Quarterback Brock Thompson added 88 rushing yards and a touchdown. Defensively, Blair Oaks limited Lutheran North to just seven points, effectively shutting down their offensive threats.
“It’s a dream come true,” Bax told the Jefferson City News-Tribune after the game. “To go out like this, with these kids, it’s special.”
blair Oaks finished the season with a 13-1 record, while Lutheran North concluded their season at 12-2. The Falcons’ championship run marks a high point for the program and a fitting farewell for a successful coach.
