Chloe Sterling Returns to Hofstra Women’s Basketball in 69-46 Loss to Fordham
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Chloe Sterling made her anticipated return to the Hofstra women’s basketball team on Saturday, scoring 11 points and grabbing five rebounds, but the Pride fell to Fordham 69-46 at the David S. mack Sports and Exhibition Complex. Sterling’s appearance marked her first game since February of last season.
The loss drops Hofstra to 1-6 on the season, while Fordham improves to 7-4.
Sandra magolico led Hofstra with 14 points and eight rebounds, adding two assists, two steals, and two blocks. Alarice Gooden contributed nine points and five rebounds, and Emma Von Essen finished with six points for the Pride.
fordham opened the game with back-to-back three-pointers, building a 6-0 lead before Sterling scored Hofstra’s first points on a driving layup. The Rams extended their advantage with a 10-0 run, halted by a Magolico layup with 1:36 remaining in the first quarter, ending the period with a 12-point lead. Fordham continued its strong play in the second quarter, holding Hofstra to just six points while adding 16 of their own, resulting in a 32-10 halftime score.
Hofstra began the third quarter with a 12-0 run, fueled by three-pointers from Von Essen and Ayen Angoi, along with layups from Magolico, narrowing the deficit to 10 points with 6:37 left in the quarter. Fordham responded with a 6-3 run before a Sterling three-pointer brought the Pride within nine at the 3:04 mark. However, the Rams closed the quarter with a 13-3 run to regain a 19-point lead. Fordham sealed the victory by outscoring Hofstra 18-14 in the fourth quarter.
Ugne Sirtautiate led Fordham with 14 points, followed by Lakresha Edwards (13), Alexis Black (12), and Tia Morgan (10).
Hofstra will conclude its non-conference home schedule on Tuesday, December 9, hosting Marywood at 6 p.m. at the Mack Sports Complex.

* Emma Von Essen is 17 points shy of 1,000 career points and 16 three-pointers away from surpassing Jen Brickley (230, 1999-03) for second-most career three-pointers at Hofstra.
* Hofstra limited Fordham to 28.6% shooting from beyond the arc in the second half (2-of-7).
* The Pride now holds an 8-12 all-time record against Fordham.
