Berwick Gymnastics Club Closes Amid Child Safety Investigation
BERWICK, VICTORIA – Funtastic Gymnastics, a gymnastics club in Berwick, Victoria, has ceased operations following a child safety complaint adn an investigation by Gymnastics Australia. The club announced its closure on Friday, november 22, one day before it was scheduled to respond to a “show cause” notice from Gymnastics australia regarding its compliance wiht Working With Children Check requirements.
Gymnastics Australia stated it received information this week indicating Funtastic Gymnastics was not ensuring all staff and volunteers held current and valid Working With Children Checks, a strict requirement for all affiliated clubs.
“Rather of responding to the show cause notice, Funtastic Gymnastics this afternoon informed Gymnastics Australia that it would close tomorrow, saturday 22 November,” Gymnastics Australia said in a statement. ”Gymnastics Australia is taking steps to terminate the membership of Funtastic Gymnastics, effective immediately.”
The Gymnastics Australia National Integrity Unit has initiated an investigation. The institution is requesting anyone with information about the ownership of Funtastic gymnastics to email integrity@gymnastics.com.au.
Victoria Police confirmed the arrest of a 48-year-old man from Olinda on November 6, following a breach of a court order. He was charged with failing to comply with reporting obligations and has been bailed to appear at Ringwood Magistrates’ Court on January 22, 2026.
Gymnastics Australia has been working with Gymnastics Victoria,Sport Integrity Australia,and Victoria Police throughout the process.
Funtastic Gymnastics reportedly has between 200 and 300 families enrolled in its programs. The ABC has reached out to Funtastic Gymnastics for comment.
