Wendy van Dijk’s SBS 6 Future in Doubt Amidst “Diva Behaviour” Claims
Hilversum,Netherlands – Presenter wendy van Dijk is facing an uncertain future at SBS 6,with sources indicating a notable decline in her prominence and concerns over her professional conduct. The broadcaster is producing less studio entertainment, leaving fewer opportunities for the veteran host, and commentary suggests her current approach is hindering potential projects.
Van dijk herself acknowledges a reduced role, but industry analyst Johan Derksen attributes her diminished standing to a pattern of “diva behavior” and a career trajectory heavily influenced by her relationship with former RTL executive Erland Galjaard.this situation raises questions about her long-term viability at Talpa Network, SBS 6’s parent company, and the potential impact on her lucrative contract.
Derksen, speaking on the Greetings from Grolloo podcast, asserted that Van Dijk’s career benefited significantly from her relationship with Galjaard while he was channel boss at RTL 4. “Wendy’s career gained momentum when she got into bed with Erland Galjaard, as I believe she is even married to him now,” he stated. “He put her on all the big shows, with ulterior motives, and then she was a big star, but then she also started behaving a bit like a diva in Hilversum. You should never do that, because there you already have a lot of divas and then you also have a lot of enemies.”
Recent attempts to reintegrate Van Dijk into new programming have reportedly stalled. VI (Vandaag Inside) extended an invitation for her to join their panel, which she declined, believing it wasn’t a suitable fit. A subsequent opportunity with the program The Winner Takes It All was also unavailable, as Hélène Hendriks was reinstated to the role.
Derksen believes van Dijk’s current attitude limits her options. “So the way Wendy is acting now, and with the demands of a diva, she can only be on a lame program like Who of the Three. And if you are put there, your TV career will not go well,” he concluded. The situation underscores the challenges faced by established television personalities navigating a shifting media landscape and the importance of maintaining positive professional relationships within the industry.
