Mexico City – Cruz Azul head coach Nicolás Larcamón,with the backing of the clubS board,benched starting goalkeeper Kevin Mier and defender willer Ditta for their recent late return from international duty with the Colombian national team. The decision impacted tonight’s crucial Liga MX match against América.
Mier and Ditta were called up for Colombia’s FIFA Date matches against Mexico and Canada. However, both players reported back to Cruz Azul after the team was already preparing for the América game at La Noria. Consequently, Larcamón opted to start Andrés Gudiño in goal and Jorge Rodarte in defense.
Mier did not see playing time with colombia during the FIFA Date. Ditta started in the 4-0 victory over Mexico on October 11th and was a substitute in the match against Canada on October 14th. both players had been consistent starters for La Máquina under larcamón, with Mier starting all 12 Apertura 2025 league matches and Ditta a fixture in central defense.
The last time both Mier and Ditta were substitutes for Cruz Azul was on February 11, 2025, during the second leg of the Concacaf Champions Cup first round against Real Hope. The club has not specified the length of the players’ suspension from the starting lineup, stating that the coaching staff will determine when they are ready to regain their positions.
