Volleyball: EKU Faces Queens & West Georgia This Weekend

RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky University ⁢volleyball⁣ prepares to defend its home court ‍this weekend, hosting ASUN Conference matchups against Queens and West Georgia at the Baptist Health Arena. The Colonels will face Queens on Friday evening and West⁢ Georgia ⁤on Saturday afternoon.

EKU’s weekend schedule coincides with promotional ​events, including a TV raffle ‌at Friday’s match and the‍ annual dig Pink match on Sunday,⁢ featuring free pink rally towels. These games are‍ crucial for the​ Colonels as they ‌navigate⁤ the ASUN standings.

The Colonels enter the weekend with a 10-6 overall⁣ record ‌and a 2-2 mark in ASUN​ play, following a split of road matches ​last weekend-a‍ 3-0 sweep of Austin Peay and a 3-0 loss to Lipscomb. EKU currently leads the ASUN in assists (12.95 per set) and kills (13.58 per set), and ranks second in hitting percentage (.254).

Junior ⁣setter Emilee Hill has been a key performer recently, averaging 3.91 kills,‍ 5.82 assists, and 3.00 digs per set ‍over​ the last three ​matches, with ​a .363 attack percentage. Carson Ledford recently moved ‍into EKU’s⁣ top-10‍ for ⁣career block assists, now totaling 296. AG Hynes is also a standout, ranking sixth in‌ the conference with a .338 hitting percentage.

Queens arrives in‌ Richmond with an ​11-6 overall record and a​ 2-2 ASUN record, having won at Stetson and ‌lost at ‍Florida Gulf Coast last weekend. The Royals boast a balanced offense, led by Callie DeSchryver’s 2.77 kills per set. Queens leads the ASUN in points‌ (17.33 per set), opponent​ hitting percentage (.193),blocks (2.36 per set), and​ digs (16.45 per set).

West Georgia brings a 2-15 overall​ record ​and an 0-4 ASUN record, currently on a five-match losing streak. Valiree Schmus leads the Wolves with 2.60​ kills per set,but the team has struggled⁢ with ‌aces allowed,giving up the most⁢ in the​ ASUN with 125.

Historically, EKU holds a‍ 4-0 all-time record against Queens, with the series ⁢beginning in 2022. The series with West ​Georgia is ​closer, ‍with the Wolves leading 2-1, though EKU won the first ASUN conference match against them​ 3-0 last season.
