Actress Marissa Lemos Dies at 28 Following Insect Bite
Marissa Lemos, a 28-year-old actress of Greek origin, has died after suffering a reaction to an insect bite, according to family members.
The actress’s mother, Bessie Lemos, shared details of the events leading to her daughter’s death with Parapolitika, stating that Marissa was bitten by an insect, experienced itching, sought medical attention, was prescribed antibiotics, and then went to sleep, never waking up. “My girl went for nothing,” she said. Bessie Lemos also revealed that Marissa had recently been in remission from breast cancer.
Family members report that Marissa, whose surname is Laimos, began experiencing dizziness, itching, and a high temperature on the night of September 9th, after returning from a vacation in Porto Cheli, Greece. On the morning of September 10th, relatives took her to a clinic, and she was afterward transferred by ambulance to University College London Hospital.
A friend of the actress stated that after tests were conducted, Marissa was discharged four hours later with antibiotics. The following day, she was found unresponsive in her bed.
The coroner is currently investigating the cause of death, with initial reports indicating a “toxic effect of the poison” from an animal or insect bite.
A relative, speaking to Mailonline, expressed concern over the level of care Marissa received at the hospital, claiming she was not seen by a doctor, only nurses who took blood tests. “They definately should not let her go,” the relative stated, adding that the urgency of the situation, prompting an ambulance transfer, should have warranted more thorough examination. They also suggested the hospital staff did not treat her with the necessary seriousness.
Further supporting this account, a friend of the actress, connected to the Greek shipping company Loimou, shared messages Marissa reportedly sent expressing her distress: “nobody is watching me, nobody comes, I don’t know where they are, I still have itchy, I feel dizzy, I don’t feel good.”
University College London Hospital has responded to the accusations by stating they have initiated an internal inquiry, standard procedure in cases of unexpected death. They are awaiting the results of the autopsy and will cooperate fully with the coroner’s examination.
Marissa Lemos was known for her work in independent theater, including a recent staging of Romeo & Juliet. Her aunt, Chrysanthi Laimos, described her as a “very friendly, quiet, educated, cultured, modest and simple girl” who loved art and theatre.
