Chiapas Athletes Dominate National Competition, Securing 37 Medals
Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas – Athletes from the state of Chiapas delivered a stunning performance at a recent national sporting event, capturing 37 medals – representing 45% of the state’s total medal count. Success was driven by athletes across nine disciplines, including skates on wheels, swimming, table tennis, archery, taekwondo, weightlifting, and frontón.
Leading the medal tally was skater Matheo Sánchez Jiménez, who secured six medals: three gold, two silver, and one bronze. Swimmer Diego Montoya Arias followed closely with five medals (one gold, two silver, two bronze), while Camila Rodríguez Soriano contributed three medals to the swimming team’s success (one gold, two silver).
other top performers included Javier Corzo de León (one gold, one silver, one bronze) in frontón, Guillén Moreno (one gold, two bronze) and Aitana Guillén Moreno (one gold, one bronze) in table tennis, and Ambar Hernández crespo (one gold, one bronze) also in frontón. Gabriel Utrilla Rimalova (table tennis) and Karime Montoy Ortega (swimming) each earned a silver and a bronze.
The competition also highlighted established national champions like María Fernanda Cruz Bolón (judo) and Ricardo Peña Valencia (wrestling), both confirmed as national tetra-champions. Rubí Aguilar Montejo and Daniela Méndez Alfonso (wrestling),along with Caridad Ramos García (Judo),also demonstrated dominance in their respective sports.
A new generation of seven athletes - Marlit Fuentes, María Fernanda Zebadúa, April Mandujano, Naomi Aguilar, Dylan Hernández, Padme Mendoza, and Vania Mondragón – contributed 20 silver and bronze medals, showcasing the growing depth of athletic talent within Chiapas.
