Maasmechelen, Belgium – Drukkerij Gijsemberg, a family-owned printing company based in Maasmechelen, has announced the acquisition of Drukkerij Vandepaer from Halen and Drukkerij Begas from Lanaken, marking its fifth and sixth takeovers in the past six years. The moves signal a strategic effort to achieve economies of scale in a challenging market.
Continued Growth Through Acquisition
According to Junior Manager Gilles Gysemberg, the acquisitions follow a consistent pattern of acquiring printing businesses without a clear succession plan.”It is a similar story like in the previous acquisitions, namely printers where there is no follow-up,” Gysemberg stated. ”The impact on the operational is relatively limited, but it does cause economies of scale in the group. That is crucial to continue to grow in a falling market. These acquisitions continue that story.”
The operations of both Vandepaer and Begas, along with select machinery, will be consolidated at Drukkerij Gijsemberg’s facility in Maasmechelen. This consolidation is expected to allow for efficient distribution of the increased workload among the existing team, and potentially lead to new hires in the production department.
A Legacy of Printing
With these latest acquisitions, Drukkerij Gijsemberg now employs 28 people and anticipates exceeding five million euros in annual turnover. The company’s roots trace back to 1930, when Gilles Gysemberg’s great-grandfather established the initial printing operations.
