MORGANTOWN, W.Va.- A pair of key West Virginia Mountaineers will miss the remainder of the 2023 season, head coach Rich Rodriguez announced Monday. Running back Jahiem White and wide receiver Jaden Bray both suffered injuries during Saturday’s 17-10 loss too Ohio and will require surgery.
The loss of White and Bray significantly impacts the mountaineers’ offensive depth as they prepare for this Saturday’s rivalry game against Pittsburgh. White, who rushed for 133 yards and three touchdowns in two games this season, including a 32-yard touchdown run in the first quarter against Ohio, will undergo knee surgery later this week. bray, who had 95 receiving yards on seven catches against Ohio and Robert Morris, sustained an injury to the same foot that ended his 2022 season after five games.
Rodriguez announced the injuries on his weekly radio show, stating both players will require surgical intervention. White was injured in the second quarter of Saturday’s game when tackled by Ohio’s Jalen Thomeson, who was flagged for a horse-collar tackle and a facemask penalty on the play. White was later carted off the field.
White rushed for 845 yards last season. West Virginia (1-1) will host Pittsburgh (2-0) in the Backyard Brawl on Saturday.
