Road Improvements to begin on Via de la Valle
SAN DIEGO – A section of Via de la Valle near the del Mar Fairgrounds will undergo overnight closures starting Monday, September 8, at 9 p.m. as the City of San diego begins a $4.8 million asphalt overlay project. The work, scheduled to continue until 5 a.m. on Tuesday, September 9, will impact traffic from just east of San Andres Drive to just east of the intersection of Jimmy Durante Boulevard adn Valley Avenue, covering more than 1.8 lane miles.
In coordination with Caltrans, the City will also close on-ramps from via de la Valle to northbound and southbound Interstate 5. The northbound and southbound on-ramps to I-5 from westbound Via de la Valle will be closed on September 8, while the southbound on-ramp to I-5 from eastbound Via de la Valle will be closed on September 9. Eastbound and westbound traffic on Via de la Valle will be maintained, though reduced to a single lane in each direction during work hours.
Motorists are advised to use caution and follow posted detours, as indicated by electronic signage.
This project, designated AC Overlay Group 2303, is part of the Engineering and Capital Projects Department’s Paving Program. The program prioritizes street resurfacing based on the Transportation Department’s Pavement Management Plan,street condition assessments,and available funding. The work includes removing damaged roadway surfaces, applying fresh asphalt, restriping lanes, and upgrading vehicular loop detectors and curb ramps to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. The overall project encompasses nearly six lane miles of resurfacing across multiple communities.
