Intermittent Internet Connectivity Issues – Seeking Community Insight
My internet service has been consistently unreliable for months, experiencing multiple outages each day. Currently, my router is repeatedly cycling through connection states - a pattern I’ve observed for hours at a time, with connections lasting anywhere from one to five minutes before dropping. The connection issues manifest in several ways: complete signal loss, a connected status with no internet access, and error messages citing security settings. A simple disconnect and reconnect frequently enough resolves the issue temporarily, but the cycle quickly repeats.
I’ve already gone through extensive troubleshooting steps, including power cycling the modem (having replaced it three times at the provider’s suggestion), checking cable connections, and verifying there are no reported outages in my area. Standard support calls have been unproductive, with technicians running through the same basic steps and ultimately declaring the service “working” instantly after, only for the problems to resume. Online troubleshooting tools also report intermittent offline status, leading to repeated troubleshooting loops.
I suspect the root cause may stem from physical damage to the cable line. Following work by a county contractor that resulted in the cable being ripped from my home, the reconnection was performed without any apparent inspection of the line itself. I’ve repeatedly requested a thorough check and potential replacement of the cable running from the pole to my house, but technicians have consistently reported “no issues” based on their on-site signal tests. However, these tests are always performed when the service appears to be functioning, and don’t reflect the frequent disruptions I experience.
Just within the last hour, the connection has cycled over 20 times. I’ve filed multiple support tickets, only to be told the issue is resolved without a clear explanation of what was fixed. This ongoing instability severely impacts my ability to work and enjoy streaming services, and I’m increasingly frustrated by the lack of a permanent solution.I’m hoping someone else may have encountered similar issues and can offer advice or insight into resolving this persistent problem.
