UK Confirms Bases Used for US Defensive Operations in Strait of…

The British government has confirmed that the United States is utilizing United Kingdom facilities for “defensive operations” in response to Iranian attacks on vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, according to statements released Friday.

A Downing Street spokesperson stated the agreement between the UK and the US, established within the context of ongoing Middle Eastern conflict, “includes US defensive operations to degrade the emplacements and capabilities of missiles used to attack ships in the Strait of Hormuz,” EFE reported.

The confirmation follows reports that the US has been granted access to British bases to launch potential strikes against Iranian targets. Diario Las Américas reported that the UK authorized the apply of its bases as part of these defensive operations against Iran.

The move, as described by London, is intended to “neutralize” attacks against shipping in the vital waterway, according to Europa Press. The UK government has framed the action as a matter of collective self-defense in the region.

The specifics of which bases are being utilized have not been disclosed. Downing Street has not yet responded to requests for further details regarding the scope or duration of the agreement.
