A major incident has been declared after a large fire broke out at a warehouse in southall, west London, this morning. Firefighters have withdrawn to a safe distance due to the suspected presence of fireworks and gas cylinders stored inside the building, escalating concerns about potential explosions.
The London Fire Brigade (LFB) received approximately 60 calls reporting the blaze, begining at 8:55 AM. Crews from Southall, Heston, Ealing, and surrounding stations are battling the fire, deploying three turntable ladders initially before withdrawing for safety. the incident poses a meaningful risk to firefighters and local residents due to the potential for escalating hazards, and is expected to be a “protracted incident” lasting throughout the day.
“This decision has been taken due to the suspected presence of fireworks and cylinders being stored within the structure,” said a spokesperson for the LFB. All firefighters are now fighting the fire from a greater distance to ensure their safety.
The warehouse, a two-story structure, is producing a large volume of smoke. Residents in the area are advised to close their doors and windows, and drivers are being urged to avoid the area. The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time.
