Derek ‘Del Boy’ Hutch faces Up to 10 Years in Prison After Pleading Guilty to Perilous driving Charges
Dublin,Ireland – Derek Hutch, formerly known as Derek Hutch and recently operating under the name Derek Moore, faces a potential 10-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to four charges related to a serious traffic collision in Dublin in May 2022. He appeared in court on Tuesday and was remanded on bail, with sentencing scheduled for December 12 before Judge Martin Nolan.
The most severe charge against Hutch is dangerous driving causing serious bodily harm, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years imprisonment and a fine. He also pleaded guilty to two separate counts of dangerous driving, both occurring on the same day in the Summerhill area of central Dublin. Each of these offences carries a potential six-month jail term.Additionally,Hutch admitted to driving under the influence of an intoxicant,an offense punishable by up to six months in prison.
This latest legal trouble comes less than a year after Hutch was released from Wheatfield Prison on July 31, 2021, where he had been serving time for manslaughter and for his involvement in an armed robbery in lucan, west Dublin, in 2009. During that 2009 incident, an undercover detective shot and killed a fellow raider. Hutch also previously served jail time after being caught with a gun and silencer in Dublin city center in the same year.
Hutch’s past has been marked by violence, both committed and endured. While incarcerated, he was targeted in two separate attacks linked to the Kinahan cartel. One attack occurred just three days after he was granted temporary release for his brother Gary’s funeral.
In October 2015, Hutch was stabbed in the arm by a group of inmates in the A yard of Mountjoy Prison after a prolonged period of seemingly amicable conversation. Prison officers intervened to prevent further injury.Later that December, an assailant attacked Hutch in his cell with a homemade knife, resulting in a defensive slash wound to his arms. Investigators believe two fellow prisoners intervened and saved his life.
Following these attacks, Hutch was transferred to Wheatfield Prison before his eventual release and subsequent name change to Derek Moore.
