Ferry services between the Spanish port of Tarifa and Tangier Ville, Morocco, were suspended Friday due to adverse weather conditions in the Strait of Gibraltar, port authorities in the Bay of Algeciras confirmed.
Both Balearia and Africa Morocco Link (AML) cancelled all scheduled crossings departing from Tarifa on Friday, citing strong winds and rough seas impacting the strait. The Port of Tarifa remained closed throughout Friday, following an initial closure on Thursday afternoon at 4:00 PM local time, according to the Port Authority.
No ferry departures are currently scheduled from Tarifa and some crossings planned for Saturday morning have likewise been cancelled. However, ferry services from the Port of Algeciras to Tangier Med are continuing to operate normally, with no reported disruptions or delays.
According to Baleària, crossings between Tarifa and Tangier Ville typically take around one hour and operate year-round. Ticket prices for the route start at approximately €40. Ferryhopper reports that prices can range from €27 to €186 depending on passenger numbers and whether a vehicle is included in the booking.
The Spanish National Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has issued a yellow alert for strong waves and rainfall in the Strait of Gibraltar area, forecasting east winds reaching between 50 and 61 km/h, particularly west of Tarifa and south of Trafalgar.
