Herdecke, Germany – Despite suffering critical injuries in a knife attack allegedly perpetrated by her 17-year-old adopted daughter, iris Stalzer, the designated mayor of Herdecke, intends to assume office on November 4th.The proclamation comes as authorities confirm the teenage suspect is no longer in psychiatric custody and is now under the supervision of the youth welfare office, raising concerns about potential flight risk.
Stalzer, 57, was attacked at her home on October 7th, sustaining 13 stab wounds and numerous head injuries. While the inquiry revealed years of family disputes, the incident has shocked the town of 23,000 located in the southeast of the Ruhr area. The case highlights the complex intersection of family trauma, mental health, and public service, as Stalzer prepares to lead despite the deeply personal ordeal.
According to Burggräf, the accused was released from the juvenile psychiatric ward after a placement order expired on Thursday, and is now required to report to the police daily. “The accused was spared imprisonment under certain conditions,” Burggräf stated.
Stalzer, speaking to the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger, affirmed her commitment to her electoral mandate. “There is no ‘nevertheless,'” she said. “I have a clear mandate from the voters and I will accept this mandate.” She credited “very good initial care and the very good care in the clinic” for her swift recovery, stating health is no longer a barrier to taking office.
The incoming mayor also addressed online “hatred and agitation” directed towards her, vowing legal action against those exceeding legally permissible limits.
