Former Student Files Lawsuit Against Beaconhills College Following On-Campus Incident
A former student of Beaconhills College in Pakenham is pursuing legal action against the school, alleging negligence contributed to a scuffle that left him quadriplegic. The lawsuit, formally notified to the school on Thursday, centers on claims of inadequate supervision during the incident.
The case raises critical questions about school responsibility for student safety and the level of care expected during school hours. The plaintiff alleges students were left unsupervised to manage a critical situation, only receiving assistance after seeking help at the front office. the outcome of this legal challenge could set a precedent for duty of care standards within Victorian schools.
According to reports, the incident involved a physical altercation.the plaintiff’s legal depiction asserts parents reasonably expect schools to provide adequate supervision and take reasonable care of students on school grounds. They contend the lack of adult intervention during the incident was ”unfathomable.”
Beaconhills College executive principal Stephen McGinley confirmed the school received notice of the legal action and is collaborating with its legal counsel. However, citing the ongoing court proceedings, mcginley declined to provide further comment, stating the school continues to support the students and staff involved and that relevant authorities were notified at the time of the incident.
The case is now before the courts, with further developments anticipated as the legal process unfolds.
