Sabres Shutout Sharks 5-0, Lyon Nears Road Win Record | Buffalo Hockey News

SAN JOSE, Calif. — The Buffalo Sabres continued their dominant road trip with a decisive 5-0 victory over the San Jose Sharks at SAP Center on Thursday night, marking their second consecutive shutout.

After a scoreless first period and a half, the Sabres erupted, scoring three goals in a span of 1:43. Noah Ostlund broke the deadlock at 9:05 of the second period, capitalizing on a race to a loose puck and firing it into the net. Sam Carrick extended the lead just 36 seconds later with a wrist shot, and Rasmus Dahlin followed up shortly after, driving to the net and scoring on a slick pass from Jason Zucker. Dahlin’s goal, his 14th of the season, put the Sabres firmly in control.

The offensive surge continued early in the third period. Tage Thompson scored at 0:40, increasing the Sabres’ advantage to 4-0. Thompson’s goal was his 35th of the campaign, making him the fifth Sabres player to reach 35 goals in a season four times, joining Rick Martin, Gilbert Perreault, Dave Andreychuk, and Danny Gare.

Carrick added his second goal of the night with 3:06 remaining in regulation, deflecting a shot from Logan Stanley past the Sharks’ goaltender. The goal sealed the victory for Buffalo.

Alex Lyon secured his career-high third shutout of the season, and the seventh of his career. Lyon matched teammate Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen’s shutout performance from Tuesday night against the Vegas Golden Knights, giving the Sabres consecutive shutouts for the first time since January 2024.

Lyon’s performance also extended his winning streak on the road to 10 consecutive games. He is now one road win shy of tying the NHL record of 11, currently held by Evgeni Nabokov (San Jose, 2009-10) and Devan Dubnyk (Minnesota Wild, 2014-15).

The Sabres will continue their California road trip on Saturday with a game against the Los Angeles Kings at Crypto.com Arena, with puck drop scheduled for 4 p.m.
