Reverend Dr. David Green: AME Presiding Elder Appointment & Family Legacy

Reverend ⁢Dr. David W. ⁤Green‍ Sr. Appointed to‌ Lead St. Petersburg AME District

The African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church has appointed ⁢Reverend Dr.David⁤ W.Green Sr. as the new Presiding Elder of the St. Petersburg‌ District ⁤within the West coast Annual Conference of the Eleventh Episcopal District. This appointment marks a continuation of strong leadership originating from Saint Stephen AME Church in Jacksonville, Florida, which previously produced ‍two Bishops – the late Right Reverend Robert Vaughn Webster and⁢ current ‌Right Reverend Michael L. Mitchell, Presiding Prelate of the 6th Episcopal district.

Dr. Green comes from ⁤a deeply rooted family tradition ⁣of ministry, being a third-generation preacher following in the footsteps of his‌ father, ⁢also a Presiding Elder. He credits⁣ his father as his ‌initial mentor, alongside⁢ his brothers who currently serve as a Bishop, General Officer,⁢ and‍ another Presiding Elder.

His more than three decades of pastoral experience have spanned various‍ Florida communities, including Gainesville, Bravington, Orlando, and Jacksonville. While serving‌ greater‍ Bethel AME in⁢ Gainesville, he oversaw ‍a period of growth and building expansion, with ⁣a particular focus on ministering to the city’s young adult population. Earlier in his career, at a church in Bravington, ⁣Dr. Green‌ pioneered an economic‍ growth initiative,⁤ establishing a breakfast service catering to employees of Tropicana Products, Inc. – a⁣ forward-thinking⁣ approach ‌to church funding predating ‍the current emphasis on “entrepreneurial ministry.”

Dr. Green emphasizes that each pastoral ⁢assignment has been ⁢a valuable learning experience. “Every church I have served has taught me something vital⁤ about God’s people and God’s purpose,” he stated, adding that these lessons will inform his empathetic, innovative, and faith-based approach to district leadership.

His initial‍ goals as presiding Elder center on facilitating reconnection among congregations following the challenges of the pandemic ‌and ⁣fostering a‌ renewed vision ‍tailored to the‍ specific needs of each church within the district.

Dr. ‍Green’s ministry is supported⁤ by his family,⁢ including his wife, Kimberly C. Green, who serves as⁣ Director of Compliance at the University of Florida, ‌and his son, reverend ⁢David W. Green Jr. The ⁣family’s faith is⁤ especially underscored by the story of their son’s ‍survival after being born prematurely at one ‌pound, eight ounces – a‌ testament they view as evidence of God’s sustaining power. Dr. Green expressed his ⁤gratitude for their unwavering ⁣support, stating they are a‌ constant reminder that “there is no ‍failure in God.”

looking forward, Dr. Green expressed confidence in God’s continued guidance.”I have seen the hand of God move too many times to doubt⁢ Him now,” he said, emphasizing that his new role is ⁢focused on‌ enabling God’s work through the people of the district.

The AME connection‌ welcomes Dr. Green to his new position, ‌offering prayers ⁣and ⁤support as he leads the⁢ St. Petersburg⁤ District⁢ toward growth, unity,⁢ and spiritual renewal.
