Social media posts referencing the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas sparked renewed interest in the location’s history as a filming site for MTV’s reality television series, The Real World. A recent post from Marianne Weston, accompanied by a message of well wishes, and a follow-up from Dawn Paull Portugues inquiring if it was the location for The Real World: Las Vegas, quickly gained traction online.
The Real World: Las Vegas, the twelfth season of the long-running MTV series, originally aired from September 17, 2002, to April 1, 2003. The show marked the first time the series was filmed in the Mountain States region of the United States, specifically in Nevada. Seven cast members lived in a penthouse suite on the 28th floor of the Palms Casino and Resort during the production, which ran from February 13 to June 21, 2002.
The season, created by Jonathan Murray and Mary-Ellis Bunim, featured Arissa Hill, Frank Roessler, Trishelle Cannatella, Alton Williams, Brynn Smith, Steven Hill, and Irulan Wilson. It consisted of 28 episodes, tying with the Denver season for the highest episode count in the show’s history.
The Palms Casino Resort has hosted The Real World franchise on multiple occasions. Following the initial 2002 season, the show returned to Las Vegas for its twenty-fifth and thirty-first seasons. The latter, Real World: Go Substantial or Go Home, was set in Downtown Las Vegas.
The popularity of the 2002 season led to a spin-off miniseries, Reunited: The Real World Las Vegas, which reunited the original cast five years after the initial season concluded. In 2023, members of the 2002 cast reunited in New Orleans, as documented in a post shared on Instagram by Trishelle Cannatella.
Arissa Hill, a participant on the 2002 season, has continued to appear in reality television, including The Challenge: All Stars in 2021. She currently owns Mofo Foods and Mojo Gourmet, companies specializing in cannabis-related events and organic food production.
