A 31-year-old man was shot at a hotel in Narooma, a coastal town approximately 280 kilometers south of Sydney, Australia, on Friday night, prompting a police investigation and a subsequent search for the perpetrator.
Emergency services responded to reports of the shooting at the hotel on Campbell Street around 10:30 p.m. Local time, according to a statement released by the Latest South Wales (NSW) Police Force on Saturday. Upon arrival, officers found the man suffering from a gunshot wound. Paramedics provided immediate treatment at the scene before transporting him to Moruya Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
Police allege that an unknown man entered the hotel, shot the 31-year-old, and then threatened other patrons while stealing cash. Following the robbery, the suspect approached a vehicle in a nearby car park – a Toyota Land Cruiser – and demanded the 17-year-old driver exit the vehicle. The suspect then fled the scene in the stolen car.
Shortly after the carjacking, police located the Toyota Land Cruiser on fire on the Princes Highway in Narooma. Fire crews extinguished the blaze, and the vehicle was secured as evidence. A search for the suspect is currently underway.
NSW Police have appealed to the public for information regarding the incident. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a report online. The investigation is ongoing, and further details are expected to be released as they become available.
