NBC 5 Year in Review: Montpelier High School Sports Analysis | Vermont

Montpelier High School’s boys’ basketball team concluded its season undefeated in Vermont Principals’ Association (VPA) Division Two play, securing their fifth consecutive state championship title, as highlighted in a recent NBC 5 Year in Review segment.

The Solons’ success is attributed to strong team chemistry and dedicated offseason preparation, according to Carter Bruzzese, who scored a game-high 25 points in a recent contest. “It means so much. I’m just blessed with such an amazing team. Amazing coaching staff. Everybody that is a part of this is amazing,” Bruzzese said.

Carson Cody, named Montpelier Player of the Year, broke the school’s all-time scoring record during his senior season, surpassing the previous record of over 1,200 points held by former teammate Jonah Cattaneo. Cody consistently demonstrated scoring prowess throughout his career with the Solons.

Beyond basketball, Montpelier High School too achieved success in ultimate frisbee, with Tully Dube making a game-winning, diving catch in the VPA Division I title game against Champlain Valley Union High School (CVU).

The VPA, established in 1915, oversees sports and activities for 75 member high schools in Vermont. The organization is currently offering professional development opportunities for school leaders, including a workshop on May 14, 2026, focused on building strategic partnerships with administrative assistants.

The NBC 5 report also showcased Atif Malek completing a slam dunk following a save by Carson Cody, demonstrating the team’s defensive capabilities alongside their offensive strengths. The VPA offers streaming access to high school sports events through the NFHS Network.
