NASCAR Memories: Race Car Experience & Meet Jeremy Gunson

Jeremy Gunson, a stock car racing enthusiast from Manjimp, Western Australia, is preparing for the 2026 season, with 36 days remaining until the first round at Sydney Motorsport Park. Gunson’s involvement extends beyond simply participating; he is as well the owner of the #25 stock car, originally a 2001 Dodge HP1429, later converted to a Chevrolet COT in 2007.

Recent attention has focused on Gunson’s #4 Chevrolet Silverado, with Aussie Stock Car News dedicating coverage to its development and potential race adventures. The publication intends to continue documenting Gunson’s experiences with the vehicle. Further reporting is planned on other cars, including the #8 Monte Carlo, the #25 Ford Thunderbird, and the #1 Holden Commodore.

Gunson’s racing background is rooted in a childhood fascination with stock car racing, sparked by the film Days of Thunder. He previously competed in Motocross during the 1990s. His current car is powered by a 5.7ltr LS1 engine with a Richmond Super T10 driveline.

The upcoming round at Sydney Motorsport Park, scheduled for April 25-26, will feature four ten-lap races. The event is free to spectators and will also include Formula Ford, AASA Tin Tops, Formula RX8, and Legend Cars racing. Registration for the round recently reopened following a switch to a modern system, though some entrants have reported difficulties establishing accounts.

Research into Gunson’s truck has revealed a potential prior ownership by FDNY Racing, based on detailed analysis of the paintwork and comparisons with trucks from the early 2010s. This finding has been corroborated by those involved in the research process.

Meanwhile, NASCAR is preparing for the 70th running of the Bojangles’ Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway over Labor Day weekend in 2026, featuring both the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series and the NASCAR Xfinity Series.
