A new campaign inviting fans to share their memories of Michael Jackson has launched in Japan, coinciding with the upcoming release of the biographical film Michael. The “I Love ♥ Michael Campaign” encourages participants to post their personal stories and appreciation for the singer on social media using the hashtag #アイラブマイケル (#ILoveMichael).
The initiative, running through July 31, is designed to build excitement for the film’s Japanese debut on June 12. Organizers are collecting submissions as a tribute to Jackson’s legacy, according to campaign materials. Participants can share written memories, photos, or videos. The hashtag should be included within the first 140 characters of any longer posts.
Prizes will be awarded via lottery. Five winners will receive a Mubichike movie ticket card, with an entry deadline of May 31. Additional prizes include sets of Japanese version flyers and B2-size posters (5 winners), and original stickers (10 winners). Organizers have indicated that further prizes may be announced.
Michael, directed by Antoine Fuqua and written by John Logan, stars Jaafar Jackson – Michael Jackson’s nephew – in his film debut. The film follows Jackson’s life, from his time with the Jackson 5 through his early solo career. The cast also includes Nia Long, Laura Harrier, Juliano Krue Valdi, Miles Teller, and Colman Domingo. The film is scheduled for release in the United States on April 24, 2026, distributed by Lionsgate, and internationally by Universal Pictures.
Development of the film began in November 2019, with Graham King securing the rights to produce the project. Filming commenced in January 2024, following delays caused by the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike, and concluded in May 2024, with additional photography taking place in June 2025. The film’s budget is $155 million.
