Argentina to Face Mexico in U-20 World Cup Quarterfinals
SANTIAGO, Chile – Mexico’s U-20 team will face Argentina in the quarterfinals of the FIFA U-20 World Cup, following their victory over Chile and Argentina’s advancement past Nigeria.The match is scheduled for Saturday, October 11, in Santiago, Chile.
Mexico advanced from a challenging “Group of Death” after drawing with both Space and Brazil, and defeating Morocco. Thay then secured their place in the quarterfinals with a decisive win against host nation Chile. Argentina, considered one of the tournament’s strongest teams, topped their group with three wins and a favorable goal difference (8 goals scored, 2 conceded) and progressed through the round of 16 after defeating Nigeria.
This will be Mexico’s third attempt to reach the U-20 World cup semifinals, having previously achieved this feat in 1977 – where they finished as runners-up - and in 2011, where they placed third. Argentina will aim to continue their strong run in the tournament, seeking a place in the final stages.
