TULSA, Okla. – University of Hawai’i men’s tennis players Timothy Li and Azuma visaya competed on the first day of the ITA All-American Championships at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on Saturday, facing tough competition from power five opponents and established programs.Despite valiant efforts, both Rainbow Warriors experienced defeats in the prequalifying rounds, shifting their focus to consolation play.
Senior transfer Timothy Li battled closely against Michigan State’s davis Saye in singles action, ultimately falling in a pair of tight sets, 7-6 (7), 6-4. The first set extended to a decisive tiebreaker,while the second was decided by a single break. Li will continue his tournament journey on sunday, taking on Mehdi Sadaoui of the University of miami in the prequalifying consolation rounds at 5:30 a.m. HT.
In doubles competition, Li and partner Azuma Visaya were narrowly defeated by UNC Charlotte’s Vasco Prata and Ivan Dreycopp, 6-4, 6-4. The Charlotte duo secured a break in each set to claim the victory. Li and Visaya will regroup and face Miles groom and Henry Ren of Dartmouth in the prequalifying consolation round on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. HT.
