Lee McKeever & Albany Inducted into Show Jumping Hall of Fame

Lee McKeever and the legendary show jumping horse Albany were inducted into the Show Jumping Hall of Fame on Sunday, March 1, at a sold-out gala held at the Wellington National Golf Club in Wellington, Florida. The event also honored Irish Olympic veteran Kevin Babington with its annual International Award.

Albany, ridden to Olympic gold by Leslie Burr Howard (then Leslie Burr) in 1984, joins McKeever in the Hall of Fame. The induction recognizes their combined achievements in the sport. The gala also featured a tribute to Mary Mairs Chapot, a pioneering figure in American show jumping, acknowledging her numerous accomplishments, including being the first West Coast rider to win the ASPCA Maclay Championship and the first American woman to earn a Pan American Games gold medal.

The Induction Gala saw recognition of 14 previously inducted Hall of Famers in attendance, including Olympic veterans Norman Dello Joio, Margie Engle, Leslie Howard, Laura Kraut, Anne Kursinski, Beezie Madden, Michael Matz, Melanie Smith Taylor, and Katie Prudent, alongside Linda Allen, David Distler, Peter Doubleday, Steve Stephens, and Robert Ridland.

Beyond the Hall of Fame inductions, the event celebrated top performers in the 2025 Show Jumping Hall of Fame Jumper Classic Series. JJ Torano was named Rider of the Year, Quality Mood Semilly earned the title of Horse of the Year, and Mary Rose Canterbury secured victory in the series’ 1.45m Final at Washington.

The gala benefited from sponsorship support from the Wheeler Family, who provided cocktails and an open bar, as well as Charlie Jacobs, who covered the attendance costs for all Hall of Famers. Additional sponsors included Jane Clark, Gina Johnson, Beth Johnson, Robin Parsky, Michael Smith, North Run, Why Worry Group, JET Show Stables, Lutz/Manfredi, the Deslauriers Family, Marta Mattox, and Schuyler Riley.

The Show Jumping Hall of Fame receives sponsorship from CMJ Sporthorse, the Hampton Classic Horse Show, the Kentucky Horse Park, Markel, Nilforushan Equisport Events, the United States Hunter Jumper Association (USHJA), and Wellington International. The Hall of Fame’s mission is to recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to the sport of show jumping.

According to the Show Jumping Hall of Fame, induction is reserved for those whose accomplishments and influence have demonstrably impacted the sport and the equestrian community. Further information is available on the Hall of Fame’s website at www.showjumpinghalloffame.net.
