Ferrari drivers Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton addressed a recent incident during practice sessions, attributing it to a combination of factors and emphasizing the team’s progress in closing the gap to McLaren.
The incident involved a near-miss with McLaren driver Lando norris. Leclerc explained that a miscommunication led to the situation, stating that a mechanic anticipated the McLaren drivers would maintain a slower pace. Consequently, he didn’t receive a timely warning to slow down.
“In such cases, you somehow relate yourself to the team,” Leclerc commented, acknowledging the team dynamic.”But things like that happen, and it was also a delicate moment, as in view of all the red flags everyone had so hurry to finally drive a few laps.”
Leclerc stressed that the incident wasn’t ideal but highlighted the challenging conditions created by frequent interruptions during Free practice 2 (FT2). He viewed the disruptions as a positive aspect of the session, fostering a competitive habitat.
Teammate Lewis Hamilton echoed a positive sentiment, stating, “it was a good day.” He expressed confidence in the team’s advancements, suggesting minimal overnight adjustments to the car’s setup.
“But of course we try to refine the set-up and see if we can get a little more out in order to get to the McLarens as close as possible,” Hamilton added, outlining the team’s primary objective: to improve performance and challenge McLaren’s leading position.
